Jump Smashes?!

We recently posted on Facebook about jump smashes…

Jump smash off serve? Absolutely but why do people think women shouldn’t… ๐Ÿค˜

This last week’s tactical Zoom session focused on Chen Yu Fei’s jumping. Watch the video and then contrast it with what the internet thinks about the ‘female jump smash’. ๐Ÿคจ

“The most honest answer is that women CAN NOT generate nearly enough power on their smashes to warrant a jump smash”๐Ÿคจ

“It is pointless for them to perform a baseline smash since they don’t jump to have the power” ๐Ÿคจ

“They do not have that much of attacking desire as men do” ๐Ÿคจ

“Women prefer to outwit rather than to overpower the opponent” ๐Ÿคจ

and the worst! “I know a few girls who can perform the perfect jump smash like a guy…but honestly they are fairly tomboy like. (which means they aren’t girly girls more into guys things and are structured a bit more manly)”๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฆ๐Ÿ˜ง

It’s our job to fight against old fashioned and sometimes blatantly sexist coaching ideas. If Chen Yu Fei can (and chooses to) play jump smash winners from serve then you can be sure we’ll be showing that to the girls at EBA and encouraging them to practise it. ๐Ÿ‘‡โ €
